Vibrant, inclusive public engagement is vital to the success of the Heroes Tunnel Project.
The outreach process is detailed in the Public Involvement Plan (PIP) and considers the needs and concerns of travelers who use Wilbur Cross Parkway and the Heroes Tunnel to get to their homes, businesses, and schools on a daily basis and those who use it for regional travel between New York and Hartford.
Collaboration with the public is essential to the project to ensure those needs and concerns are continually addressed as the project advances from study to design and then construction.
Once the Preliminary Design phase is complete, a public informational meeting focusing on ventilation and life safety upgrades will be held to allow the public, local municipalities, and key stakeholders an opportunity to comment. This meeting is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2021.
